Glass tube patio heaters can be an excellent way to heat a space or even use in your own home. Whether you are looking for a gas unit or one with a glass tube, they are ideal for heating an area that is cold or maybe the water heater is not working. They do have their disadvantages however.

The first and most obvious disadvantage of a glass tube heater is that you have to worry about a longer lifespan. This is because they require more maintenance to keep them going. They are not as efficient as a gas or electric one. These tend to need more flue maintenance and could require periodic replacement if they get a lot of condensation build up. This can cause a lot of expense if it does happen.

There are some homeowners who prefer glass tube heaters simply because of the look of them. However these are more expensive than the others. You can also choose to install them yourself with the help of a home handyman or someone who can put in a couple of hot water lines.

Safety is also something to consider. Although this can be the most convenient way to heat a space, it can be dangerous if the unit gets caught on something and breaks. Make sure that all flue lines are in good shape or else you run the risk of having a fire in your home. Also the thermostat that controls the temperature of the space needs to be checked regularly.

You will also need to protect the glass tube heater from the sun. They are susceptible to UV rays and you might not want to leave them exposed to the elements. It is best to install them on a cool summer day when there is no sun and to cover them up when not in use.

If you have a large patio then aglass tube heater might not be a good idea. They can get in the way of someone walking down the path. If your patio is large and does not have a pathway then you should at least get a regular patio heater. The drawback of a glass tube heater is that they take up quite a bit of space so you may have to relocate them somewhere else if they start to collect condensation.

In a way they do have their advantages but still the disadvantages do outweigh the advantages. Make sure that they are safe to use, reliable and have a place to put them before you buy.
